How Regions Bank and UWAAA Made National Senior Citizen’s Day Special

Regions Bank recently donated Household Supply Kits to support local seniors.

At United Way Area Agency on Aging (UWAAA), we believe seniors deserve care, respect and support every day of the year. Thanks to strong community partners such as Regions Bank, older adults in our community are receiving just that.

In recognition of National Senior Citizen’s Day, which took place on August 21st, Regions’ Corporate Marketing and Communications team assembled care kits filled with household and personal items for seniors we serve in Jefferson County. The project was inspired by team member Madison Terry, who reflected on her own experience caring for her grandmothers and wanted to reach seniors who may not have family nearby.

“I’ve been fortunate to care for my grandmothers, which made me think about those aging without family support,” Terry said. “Many seniors live alone or in facilities without regular visitors. Simple acts like writing letters, assembling care kits or delivering meals show them they’re valued and remembered. It’s our responsibility to ensure they feel connected to the community.”

To make the kits extra special, Susan Clowdus, Regions’ Vice President of Community Affairs and a dedicated United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) supporter, sewed 50 reusable bags out of recycled United Way campaign t-shirts. The team filled them with supplies and handwritten notes for Jefferson County seniors.

How We Support Older Adults

We are committed to helping older adults live with dignity and independence. In 2024, we directly assisted nearly 11,000 older adults through programs such as senior center activities, hot meals, Medicare counseling, caregiver support and much more.

For many seniors, loneliness is a real challenge. Simple acts of kindness, whether it’s delivering a meal, organizing activities in assisted living or sending a handwritten note, can make a lasting difference. Donations such as Regions’ care kits show seniors they are remembered, valued and connected to the community.

“Supporting the generations of parents, workers, leaders and mentors who dedicated their lives to building the communities we enjoy today is an important part of our mission,” said Gina Sian, head of the Regions Making Life Better Institute.
