The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of the United Way Area Agency on Aging provides free information and referrals for seniors and people with disabilities in Jefferson County.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center simplifies the process of finding the help you need. We assist older adults, disabled individuals, caregivers and family members in making informed decisions about lifestyle enhancements, healthcare and long-term care options, including home and community-based services, as well as a wide range of other programs and services specifically designed for people as they age.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center is widely recognized in Jefferson County as a place where seniors, as well as people of any age with disabilities, can receive accurate and unbiased information and direction concerning a wide array of assistance programs. Through reliable information, people are better able to evaluate their options with confidence relative to their current living situation and long-term care.
Our “No Wrong Door” approach is designed to coordinate and streamline access to many vital programs, thus ensuring that older adults, individuals with disabilities and family caregivers can easily obtain user-friendly information on public and private services.

Comprehensive Assistance
ADRC helps you make informed decisions about healthcare needs and long-term care options, including home and community-based services.
Screenings and Referrals
We provide screenings and appropriate referrals using the Universal Intake Form (UIF) for all services and programs offered at the Area Agency on Aging.
Eligibility Assistance
We assist with applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicare Savings Programs (MSP), Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), Alabama Elderly Simplified Application Project (AESAP) and the Farmers Market Coupon Voucher Program.

What types of resources are available to me through ADRC?
Our resource guide is a comprehensive list of programs and services in 35 different categories. Examples of categories include housing, in-home care, dental clinics, transportation services and vision and hearing resources.

Who can use the services provided through ADRC?
ADRC serves as a resource and referral program for seniors, people with disabilities and caregivers. Anyone in need of information for a loved one can call ADRC.

How old do you have to be to receive services through ADRC?
There is no age requirement when it comes to utilizing ADRC. However, you may be referred to various programs and services of the United Way Area Agency on Aging that have their own guidelines.

What if I call ADRC for a resource and nothing is available that answers my needs?
If a resource is not available through the United Way Area Agency on Aging, the staff will try its best to locate the needed services elsewhere. If those initial efforts are unsuccessful, feel free to continue checking back with ADRC.

What if I need help completing an application for additional Medicare benefits, SNAP or assistance with prescription drugs?
Call us! The ADRC specialist or program coordinator will assist you to make sure it is completed correctly.
