In February 2024, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) made the first significant update to the Older Americans Act (OAA) rules in more than 30 years. These changes reflect the current needs, impacts and resources for older Americans, their families and caregivers. The deadline for compliance is October 1, 2025.
Because of the OAA update, the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) must amend the ACL-approved 2025–2028 State Plan on Aging to include the new requirements and submit the revised plan for a 30-day public comment period.
If you are an older adult, person with a disability, caregiver, professional in the aging or disabilities field or any other interested individual, you are invited to provide input on the amendment to Alabama’s 2025–2028 State Plan on Aging by clicking here.
